    Better Minds GGZ provides care for a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety disorders, panic disorder, depression, burnout syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorders, relationship difficulties (couples therapy), child and adolscence consultation for developmental problems and personal development concerns. Our services are designed for outpatient care, meaning we can effectively address issues that can be managed in a therapy setting without the need for intensive, live-in support or hospitalization. We are also experienced in helping expatriates navigate the unique challenges of adjusting to life in the Netherlands. While we strive to assist as many people as possible, there are certain situations where we may not be the best fit. For example, we are unable to provide care for acute crises requiring immediate intervention or inpatient facilities, compulsory treatments, or legal cases involving forensic psychiatry. Additionally, we do not treat highly complex or chronic mental health conditions that require hospital-based or multidisciplinary care, such as psychotic disorders, nor do we offer residential or stay-in treatment options. If your needs fall outside our scope, we will gladly help guide you to the appropriate resources to ensure you receive the best possible care.
  • Do I need a referral from my general practitioner (huisarts) to start therapy?
    Yes, if you want your sessions to be reimbursed through insurance, you’ll need a referral from your GP or POH GGZ. This referral ensures your concerns align with reimbursable care. If you’re unsure how to get one, we can guide you through the process. We understand not everyone might seek a formal referral.   • Can I have online therapy?
    Absolutely! We understand that visiting in person isn’t always possible, so we offer secure and effective online therapy sessions, after the an in-person intake session.
  • What should I expect during the first therapy session?
    During your first session (intake), the therapist will conduct an intake to understand your concerns, goals, and background. This session helps determine the best treatment approach for your specific needs as well as answering any questions you might have about the process.
  • What are the qualifications of the therapists at Better Minds GGZ?
    The therapists at Better Minds GGZ are highly qualified and certified professionals with extensive experience in mental health care. Many hold advanced degrees and certifications in specialized therapies such as Schema Therapy, EMDR, and CBT.
  • Are there any waiting times?
    Better Minds GGZ prides itself on offering no waiting times, ensuring prompt access to individualized support.
  • Does Better Minds GGZ work with insurance providers?
    Yes, Better Minds GGZ collaborates with a wide range of insurance providers. Depending on your plan, 62–100% of the cost of your sessions may be covered. It's recommended to check with your insurer to confirm the specifics of your coverage. See costs & reimbursement page for more details. If you’re insured with DSW, we’ve got you covered! We’ve arranged direct billing with DSW, so you won’t have to pay upfront or go through Infomedics—less hassle for you.
  • How long does a therapy session last?
    Most therapy sessions at Better Minds GGZ last 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the type of session and treatment plan.
  • Can I choose my therapist?
    Better Minds GGZ makes an effort to match clients with the most suitable therapist based on their preferences, needs, and the therapist’s expertise. If you have a specific preference, you can discuss this during the intake process.
  • What languages are therapy sessions available in?
    Therapy sessions are available in Dutch, English, German, Greek, Polish, and Turkish, accommodating the diverse needs of the community.
  • What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
    If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact Better Minds GGZ at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a charge. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment will incur a €65 fee.
  • How does Better Minds GGZ ensure privacy and confidentiality?
    Better Minds GGZ complies with Dutch privacy laws (AVG) and follows strict confidentiality protocols. Your personal and medical information is securely stored and shared only with your consent.
  • How are therapy sessions billed under the Care Performance Model (ZPM)?
    Since January 1, 2022, mental health care funding in the Netherlands operates under the Care Performance Model (ZPM). Individual consultations are billed weekly or monthly, with invoices typically sent about a month after your consultation. You are responsible for paying the invoice and can submit it to your insurer for reimbursement, depending on your policy.
  • What is the mandatory deductible (eigen risico) for 2025?
    The mandatory deductible for 2025 is €385. This means that the first €385 of your psychological care costs are your responsibility. If your treatment spans the year-end, this deductible applies separately to both years.
  • I received an invoice from Infomedics. What should I do?
    Better Minds GGZ partners with Infomedics for secure billing and invoicing. If you have received an invoice from Infomedics, it includes the costs for the services provided by your therapist. Please follow the instructions on the invoice to make your payment. If you have any questions regarding the invoice, payment methods, or need assistance, you can visit the Infomedics FAQpage for detailed information. On their page, you can find answers about payment deadlines, installment plans, and how to handle incorrect or unclear invoices.
